thirteen steps: scary true story

The 13 Steps down to hell were located in Maltby Cemetery in Washington. There used to be a staircase that began at ground level and descended down under the earth. It was said to be low-grade entrance to the tomb of a wealthy local family.
According to the legend, you had to go to the cemetery late at night and walk down these 13 steps. While descending the steps, you wouldn’t be able to hear anything. Once you had reached the bottom, if you turned around, you would be confronted by a vision of hell.
They say that the vision would drive you insane. Those who watched people performing this ritual said that they witnessed the person stop at the bottom, turn around and then collapse to their knees in horror. According to some reports, several children emerged nearly comatose from the steps, many of them never uttered another word.
The 13 steps no longer exist. As the story goes, they were bulldozed or filled in with concrete years ago. Since then, there have been severe No Tresspassing limitations on the cemetery and even rumors of kids making expeditions late at night to Maltby Cemetery, armed with shovels, hoping to unearth the 13 steps down to hell.
“My girlfriend and I wanted to see this for ourselves. You have to go down these thirteen steps and then you see a little chair. If you sit in the chair it automatically means that you have sold your soul to the devil. It sounds really creepy. I was at church with my friend and his pastor said that he went there when he was 16 years old and it was the worst experience of his entire life”.
“A group of us headed out to the cemetery in Maltby. We made sure we got there as close to midnight as possible. After about an hour of searching around in the dark, we finally found it. The 13 steps. In the moonlight, you couldn’t see the bottom. We tried using a flashlight and we still could not see the bottom. It was frightening and one of the girls was so freaked out that she couldn’t even look down into the staircase. I decided I was going to go for it, but as I walked down the first two steps, I started to feel a sick.
After the next two steps, I felt light-headed. When I got to the sixth step, I became so cold that I could barely breathe and I could hear muffled yelling and screaming. I was not going any further. I couldn’t even take the next step. When I turned to climb back up, I could feel something pushing on my back and I couldn’t see out up to my friends clearly. When I finally reached the top of the staircase, I realized the yelling and screaming was coming from my friends.
They were screaming that I had disappeared when I went down. I am six feet tall. I couldn’t have been out of sight after having only gone down halfway down. Needless to say, we were all completely freaked out and got out of there as quickly as possible. To this day, every now and then, I dream about the 13 steps that lead down to hell and I always wake up in a cold sweat”.
Note: There is also a “13 Steps” cemetery in Palo called Pleasant Ridge cemetery. There is a set of stairs leading up to the cemetery gate that has 12 steps. But at night, a 13th step is said to appear.

cry baby lane: scary story

Cry Baby Lane

For 11 years, Cry Baby Lane was considered a lost film, and on the Internet, a legend grew up around it. People said it was a crazed and horrific movie, stuffed full of blood, guts, cannibalism and much more.
I managed to find a copy of the movie on the Internet and watched it. Unfortunately, it is nowhere near as scary as people made it out to be. It’s just like a feature-length episode of Are You Afraid of The Dark or Goosebumps.
Cry Baby Lane is about two boys who enjoy listening to scary ghost stories. The local undertaker tells them the tale of a local farmer whose wife gave birth to Siamese twins, one good, one evil:
“It all happened some time ago. There was a farmer whose wife gave birth to twins. But something was terribly wrong. Due to a rare embryonic mutation, the infants joined as one flesh and came into this world freaks and the farmer hid them away. As they grew, it became clear that one was good and the other was evil. Now, it happened that one of the twins fell ill, and because they shared the same liver, the illness quickly spread and they both perished. Not wanting to expose his shame, the farmer decided to unjoin the bodies, and buried only the good son in the town cemetery. He buried the evil son in a field at the end of an old dirt road called Cry Baby Lane. Because, legend has it, anyone caught out there at night on that desolate road can hear the cries of the evil child calling for vengeance from beyond the grave.”
After hearing this story, the boys decide that a good way to impress some teenage girls is to hold a seance in the cemetery where the good twin is buried. They wind up unintentionally awakening the evil twin instead. Gradually, the evil twin possesses nearly everyone in town and it is up to the boys to stop him.
The movie is not scary. The evil twin is a guy with white, glowing eyes and long fingernails who eats worms. The only part that even comes close to being creepy is when a spider crawls out of a little girl’s mouth and onto her tongue.
Note: There is actually a real Cry Baby Lane in Raleigh, North Carolina. There was a Catholic orphanage that housed a few dozen young boys and girls. One night in 1958, a priest accidentally started a fire. The children were trapped in the orphanage dormitory and burned to death in the flaming building. Months after the fire, the neighbors complained that they could hear the ghostly voices of children, crying and screaming in fear and pain. They say that if you go there late at night, you can still hear the screams of the orphaned children who died in the fire.

flickering lights: scary story

A few years ago, there was a lady who lived near a mental hospital. One night, she was at home watching TV, waiting for a phonecall from her brother. He was flying into town to meet her and was going to call when his plane landed.
It was a very stormy night. Suddenly, the television program was interrupted by a news bulletin. The news reader said that a crazy woman had escaped from the local mental hospital. They doctors said that the crazy woman was very dangerous. She had killed 12 people before she had been caught and sent to the mental institution. They also said she was obsessive compulsive and was obsessed with light switches.
The woman was distracted by her phone ringing. It was her neighbor from across the street. He told her that her upstairs lights in one window kept flickering on and off. The lady thanked for letting her know and hung up the phone.
She thought it was probably just an electrical problem, but she decided to go upstairs and check, just in case. In the darkened hallway, through the crack under the door, she saw that the lights in one bedroom were indeed flickering on and off. Gripping the door handle, she opened it cautiously. The room was empty. The fan in the room was on and it was blowing a coat hanging beside it. The coat kept knocking the light switch on and off. Relieved, the lady turned off the fan and went back downstairs.
A few minutes later, there was a knock on her door. It was her neighbor again. He told her that the lights upstairs were still flickering on and off, but this time it was in a different window. Together, they went upstairs to check it out. When she opened the door of the room, the lady found it empty. The lights were off. Her neighbor stepped into the room and began switching the lights on and off again and again.
At this point, the lady decided that her neighbor must be imagining things, so she thanked him and escorted him downstairs. After he left, the phone started ringing. Her brother called to tell her he had arrived at the airport.
“You don’t need to pick me up”", he said. “I’m getting a taxi. I’ll be there in about half an hour.”
Then, on the line, she heard a raspy female voice say “I’ll see you soon.”

the lift:scary story

There was a young woman who had just started a new job in a large office building. She was walking to work one day when a long black hearse drove up slowly next to her, matching her pace. This made her nervous and she anxiously watched it out of the corner of her eye.
The driver leaned out the window and called to her in deep, booming voice: “Do you need a lift?” She turned to look at him got a terrible shock. The driver’s face was incredibly hideous and deformed. His skin was a deathly pale and one of his eyes was noticeably higher than the other. The man pointed to the rear of the vehicle, which contained a coffin. “Room for one more,” he said.
Frightened by his bizarre appearance and unwelcome suggestion, she refused his offer of a lift. Profoundly disturbed, the woman ran down the street until she came to the office building where she worked. For the rest of the day, she couldn’t stop thinking about the strange man in the hearse, and was glad when work finally was over.
The woman worked up on the ninth floor and when the elevator came it was almost completely full. She hesitated a moment before stepping in. “Are you sure you don’t want to come in?” asked a familiar, booming voice. “There’s room for one more.”
The woman gasped. It was the hearse driver from this morning, eyeing her with his lopsided, horrible gaze. Now thoroughly spooked, the woman backed away stuttering, “I-I think I’ll take the stairs!” The hearse driver just stared at her as the doors slid closed.
The woman had only taken a few steps down the stairs when she heard a chorus of screams followed by a deafening crash. She hurried downstairs and discovered the elevator cable had broken and all the passengers aboard had plunged to a grisly death.

the message: creepy true story

I’ve been lying in bed for hours. It’s 5:30 am now and there’s noting I can do. My parents are staring at me but I can’t bear to look at them. I’m trying not to scream.
Their eyes are staring straight at me and their mouths are hanging open. I feel paralyzed by fear. I can’t let it know that I’m not asleep and there’s nobody left to save me. I’ve been trying to think of a way to escape, because if I stay here, I’m going to die.
It’s waiting for me to wake up and see what it has done.
A few hours ago, I was awoken by loud screams coming from down the hallway. I got up and went to see what was going on. After taking a peek outside my bedroom door, I noticed blood on the carpet. Terrified, I jumped back into bed and hid under the covers. I tried desperately to go back to sleep, and tried to convince myself that it was just some horrible nightmare.
Then, I heard my bedroom door creak open and I peeked out from under my blankets to see what was going on. I could see something dragging two large bundles into the room.
Whatever it was, it wasn’t human. I could tell that much. It was thin and hairless. It didn’t have any eyes. It was stooped and crooked and crept noiselessly into the room. My eyes adjusted to the darkness and I could make out what it was dragging. It was the bodies of my dead parents.
It propped my father against the edge of the bed, and turned his head to face me. Then it sat my mother down in the chair and positioned her facing towards me as well. Finally, it started rubbing it’s hands along the walls, drawing something in blood.
It stepped back and I could see it had scrawled a message on the wall. A few hours ago, it was too dark to read.
The thing has been standing in the corner for hours, waiting to strike. My eyes have adjusted to the darkness and now I can read the message on the wall. I don’t want to look at. It’s too terrifying to think about. But I need to see it before I die.
I peek at the message on the wall.
It reads: “I know you’re awake.”

candyman: scary sleepover game

According to the legend, if you look into a mirror and chant the name “Candyman” five times, the Candyman will appear and kill you with his hook. For you see, the Candyman is a vicious killer with a bloody hook for a hand. He appears from the mirror, covered in blood and bees and with nothing but murder on his mind.
They say that years ago, Candyman was once a real man. Back in the days of slavery, Candyman was a black slave named Daniel Robitaille, who worked on a plantation in New Orleans. He was a talented painter and was chosen by the plantation owner to paint a portrait of his daughter.
But Daniel fell in love with the daughter of the white plantation owner. When the racist plantation owner discovered that his daughter and the slave were in love, he raised an angry mob and chased Daniel out of town.
Armed with pitchforks and a pack of dogs, they chased the poor slave across fields and streams. Finally, they caught up with the exhausted slave near an old barn. The evil men siezed Daniel and cut off his right hand with a rusty saw. Then they covered him in honey and threw him into a beehive.
The unfortunate Candyman was in terrible pain and died from his injuries, but not before he cursed the men who killed him and vowed to return and exact his revenge. They say his spirit would never rest and now his ghost walks the world for all eternity, appearing when his name is called five times.
So remember, you can say “Candyman” once, twice, three times or four. But never say it five times or you’ll be sorry!

concentrate: sleepover game

To play Concentrate, you only need two people. You begin by telling the person to close their eyes. Then you stand behind them and say the chant while performing the rituals. During the chorus, you pound lightly on the peron’s back with your fists while you chant. During the verses, you perform the actions while you chant.
(Every time you say this, you pound lightly on the person’s back with both fists)
Concentrate. Concentrate.
Concentrate on what I’m saying.
People are dying. Children are crying.
Concentrate. Concentrate.
Concentrate on what I’m saying.
(Verse 1: Tap the person on the top of their head with your fist and run your hands down both sides of their head)
Crack an egg on your head.
Let the yolk run down. Let the yolk run down.

(Verse 5: Mime wrapping a rope around their neck and then pull the imaginary rope. The person’s head should move back as if they are being hung.)
Wrap a rope around your neck.
Wrap it till it’s tight.
Wrap a rope around your neck.
And… PULL!
(Hold the person by their arms. Whisper in their ear)
You’re standing on a building.
You’re out on the ledge.
You’re feeling very dizzy
and you’re close to the edge.
and someone… PUSHES YOU!
You push them, just enough to make them tip forward and regain their balance. Then you tell them to open their eyes and ask them what color they saw. The color they see when they open their eyes represents how they will die.
Red means they are going to be stabbed.
Blue means they will drown in water.
Yellow means they will be poisoned.
Orange means they will burn to death in a fire.
Green means they will fall from a height and die on grass.
Purple means they will suffocate.
Brown means they will be buried alive.
Grey means they will die of a disease in hospital.
White means they will die of old age and go to Heaven.
Black means they will die of old age and go to hell.

The cat was very nice.
It meowed and purred.
One day, the cat got hit by a car and died.
Catscratch, catscratch, catscratch.

It scratches you, one, two, three.
Cat scratch, cat scratch, cat scratch!

Step 1: Dim the lights and place a chair in the middle of the room.
Step 2: One person sits on the chair and the others stand around the person. Two at the person’s arms and two at their legs.

The “Storyteller” who by the person’s head and tells a made up story about the person and how they died horribly. At the end of the story, everyone chants “Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board” repeatedly as they lift the person off of the ground. The idea is to have the person believing that “ghosts” are helping to lift them.

baby blue: sleepover game

To play “Baby Blue, Blue Baby”, you have to go into the bathroom on your own, turn off the lights and lock the door. Then you stare into the mirror, hold out your arms like you are rocking a baby and repeat the words “Baby Blue, Blue Baby” 13 times without making a mistake.
If you do it right, you will suddenly feel the weight of an invisible baby in your arms. The baby will get heavier and heavier as it grows larger and larger. You will feel it scratching your arms.
Before it gets too heavy, you have to quickly take the invisible baby, flush it down the toilet and run out of the bathroom. If you don’t do it fast enough, a hideous woman will appear in the mirror. She will yell “Give me back my baby!” and scream loud enough to break glass. If you are still holding the baby, she will kill you.
According to the legend, a group of girls found out about the blue baby story and decided to try it out. They didn’t believe it would work, so they sent their friend Laura into the bathroom on her own. She turned the lights off and closed the door behind her. Laura put out her arms and started chanting the phrase “Blue Baby, Baby Blue”.
All of a sudden a baby appeared in her arms and began scratching her. Laura was scared out of her wits and had no idea what to do. She wanted to drop it and run, but was afraid of what might happen. She just stood there holding the invisible baby as it grew heavier and heavier. Suddenly, she caught sight of something horrible in the bathroom mirror and screamed in terror.
When Laura’s friends heard her screaming, they tried to open the bathroom door, but it was locked. Finally, they managed to run to a friends’s house to get help. When they broke open the door, they found Laura lying dead on the bathroom floor. Her eyes had been scratched out. They couldn’t move her body because something large and invisible was pinning her to the ground.

bloody mary: sleepover game

These Bloody Mary pictures show you what to expect.
The history of the chanting game is based on mixed up legends and history that over the years have become the main basis for the story surrounding the urban legend.
The most common story told is that Mary Worth was a witch that lived over 100 years ago who dabbled in the black arts. She was found out and executed.
The other story is more modern – a local woman was involved in a fatal car accident, and her face was horribly scarred before she died. She reappears in the mirror when summoned with that same horrific face.
It is largely believed that the origins of the names “Mary Worth” and “Bloody Mary” came from a slight mix up of characters from history. Mary I, Queen of England, or Mary Tudor, who reigned during the Tudor period was also commonly known as “Bloody Mary”.
Mary Tudor Bloody Mary
Her nickname of “Bloody Mary” became attached to her when she violently executed and burnt people at the stake for heresy throughout her 5-year reign as Queen of England.
She also was unable to have children and suffered two phantom pregnancies, this is why it is speculated that the variation involving chanting “I stole your baby” became tangled up with the legend.
There is another suggestion that the name “Mary Worth” was derived from a victim of the Salem Witch trials.
Another possible origin is the legend of Elizabeth Bathory, or Countess Dracula as she has been called. She was a Hungarian royal who was rumored to have killed young girls and bathed in their blood to preserve her youthful beauty. Of course her name was not Mary but somehow the stories of this cruel woman have been inserted into the legend.
The Japanese have their own version, called Kuchisake Onna or The Slit Mouth Woman.
How do you play Bloody Mary? What you need is one candle, a strong heart and a big bathroom with a large mirror.
Turn out the lights, place your candle down and light it, stand and look into the mirror, chant slowly “Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary”. And see what happens…
If nothing happens try spinning around three times and then look into the mirror. You may just catch a glimpse of her terrifying face.
Try it out if you dare, but don’t blame me if you find yourself trapped in a ghostly netherworld with the ghost of Bloody Mary forever!

the ribbon: a scary story

Bill whistled as he strolled through the park. He was on his way to meet his girlfriend, Sally. He could smell spring in the air. He jingled the engagement ring in his pocket and thought about asking Sally to marry him.
Sally sat down on a park bench and Bill kneeled down in front of her.
“Sally,” Bill said, “you are the most beautiful girl I’ve ever met. I love you and I want you to be my wife. Will you marry me?”
Sally laughed and said, “Yes! I will marry you.”
As Bill gazed lovingly at his bride-to-be, his eyes lingered on the red velvet ribbon Sally always wore around her neck.
“Why do you always wear that red ribbon?” Bill asked.
Sally said, “Bill, I must never take off my red ribbon!”
Bill smiled at Sally and left the ribbon alone.
Bill and Sally were married that June. Bill found a lovely little house in a nice neighborhood and they moved in.
Bill bought Sally many party dresses. But Sally always wore her red ribbon with each outfit. Bill thought this was odd.
Sally just smiled and said, “I must never take off my red ribbon.”
After a few years, Sally found out she was going to have a baby. This news delighted Bill.
Sally talked with her friends who had babies. Bill talked with his buddies who had children.
They talked together late into the night about what they had learned from everyone.
When the big day came, Sally said, “Please tell the doctor I must not take off my red ribbon!”
Bill was frustrated. But he promised Sally that he would tell the doctor.
After the baby was born, Bill gave Sally flowers.
“Thank you for the flowers, Bill,” Sally said. “And thank you for telling the doctor I must not take off my red ribbon.”
Bill did not understand why the red ribbon was so important.
“Do you want to hold little Billy?” Sally asked.
Bill, Sally, and little Billy lived happily for many years in the small, lovely house in the nice neighborhood.
When little Billy was a baby, he would sometimes reach for the red ribbon around his mother’s neck. Sally would gently take his little hands in hers and coo at him, saying, “Mommy must never ever take off her red ribbon!”
The red ribbon had frustrated Bill for a long time. He loved Sally with all of his heart, but did not understand her need to wear the red ribbon.
After many years, Bill had an idea. “Our anniversary is coming up. I will buy Sally a beautiful necklace. She will take off that old red ribbon so she can wear the beautiful necklace!”
Their anniversary came. Bill took Sally to a fancy restaurant overlooking Central Park. They had a delicious meal.
Then Bill gave Sally a velvet box with a beautiful diamond necklace in it. She opened it, smiled, and tears came to her eyes. Bill put the necklace around her neck and started to take off the red ribbon.
Sally stopped him. She said, “I must never take off my red ribbon!” Bill sat back in his seat with a huff. He looked at Sally and shook his head.
“I may never understand,” Bill said.
Sally gently placed the diamond necklace back in the velvet box and closed the lid. “It is lovely, Bill. I will treasure it always,” she said. “But I must never take off my red ribbon.”
“Why?” Bill asked, as he had for so many years.
Sally smiled sadly and shook her head. She did not answer him.
Late that night Bill was still awake. “I’ve loved Sally for more than twenty years. But she insists on wearing that horrible red ribbon around her neck. I think it’s about time I found out why.”
Bill got out of bed and walked around to Sally’s side. Bill carefully pinched the ends of the bow on the ribbon. He began to slowly pull on the ribbon.
The bow became smaller and smaller. The loops of the bow pulled through and only a half-knot was left.
Bill slid his finger under the half-knot and tugged.
ZIP! The red ribbon gave way.
POP! Sally’s head came off. It rolled right to the floor, bouncing in the moonlight!
One large tear fell from Sally’s eye.
“I warned you!” she said.
